Manchester United have agreed an initial £64m transfer fee for Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund, a deal that could rise to £72m.
The 20-year-old striker said his goodbyes to teammates on Saturday after failing to come off the bench in his club’s 3-1 friendly win over Bournemouth.
United are confident of landing the Dane before the start of the season, although insist they will not pay more than £60m for the attacker, who scored 16 goals last season. He has already held talks with Erik ten Hag.
Meanwhile, United are open to a Sofyan Amrabat arrival but only should funds allow. The Reds will need to offload a number of players to facilitate new signings having raised just over £20m from their four departures so far this summer.
Fred is among those players who United would consider selling if a suitable offer was received, while the Reds have rejected a £20m bid from West Ham for Harry Maguire.
