…says survey reveals that 90% Nigerians pass vote of confidence in Tunji-Ojo’s ingenious ability to shift Nigeria’s economy from mono to diversified stride

The Executive Director Alpha 3D, Ondo State, Prince Poroye Biyi Bill, has hailed President Tinubu for the newly created Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. He also appreciated the President for appointing a man of impregnable integrity and ingenuity, a man with innovative ideas, a visionary man and a man with first-class brain, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo to oversee the ministry.

The APC chieftain, Prince Poroye while speaking with Coastal Renaissance said, “with creation of the ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, President Tinubu has shown skill and capacity that he will deliver. Even survey has revealed that 90% Nigerians passed vote of confidence in Tunji-Ojo’s ingenious ability to shift Nigeria’s economy from mono to diversified stride.

“it is germane to state clearly that one of the goods that come with diversification is improved human resource management. Due to the inability of the oil sector to employ a large number of our talented graduates, President Tinubu tends to find succor, hence, created this new ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to provide permanent solution to the nation’s hardship and reduce large number of unemployed graduates. The development of other sectors of the economy will give room for efficient human resource management and this will also help identify and trap best brains that will catapult the nation to the brim of her success.”

“Unemployment will be a thing of the past if we can shift paradigm from a mono economy to a diversified one. The oil sector could only employ limited number of the population and worst still, only experts, leaving the rest to wander in disarray. History has shown that the agrarian economy of the 1960s employed 70% of the Nigerian population. So, there is no doubt in our mind that unemployment in Nigeria will be reduced significantly if the economy is diversified. Also, crime in its various forms such as kidnapping, robbery, scamming, and forgery will be reduced to nadir as this new ministry of Marine and Blue Economy will meaningfully engage the teaming population which will consequently increase and improve the economic growth and development of the country.

Blue Economy is an economic system or sector that seeks to conserve marine and freshwater environments while using them in a sustainable way to develop economic growth and produce resources such as energy and food.

The Ministry of Blue Economy will warehouse all maritime departments, agencies and stakeholders. President Tinubu can task the newly created National Economic Council to engage appropriate technocrats and experts to come up with an operational framework for the new ministry.

The agencies that will be supervised by the ministry include the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Federal Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.

Others are the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), and the Maritime Academy of Nigeria in Oron, Akwa Ibom State established for capacity and manpower development.

The strategic goals of the ministry will include but not limited to bringing all maritime and maritime related departments under one roof for effective ocean administration, transparency and accountability; eliminating the duplication of functions and rivalries between agencies and departments, and promoting and maximising ocean sustainability.

The proposed ministry will serve as a dependable source of alternative revenue – away from oil. The minister must therefore be a professional who is knowledgeable about blue economy management and familiar with marine spatial planning which will be at the core of the ministry’s mandate.

However, it must be noted that we cannot operationalise the blue economy concept without the expertise of the Nigerian Navy. Apart from providing hydrographic support in critical baseline data on which all other sectors of the blue economy are to be built, it will also ensure credible maritime security and enforcement of marine spatial planning directives.
