The lawmaker representing Ogun West in the National Assembly, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, has identified good governance as a panacea for development.
Senator Odebiyi stated this at the inaguration of South West Movement for Good Governance and Ethical leadership (MGGEL) held in Akure, Ondo state capital.
He said the challenges facing good governance in the country is a result of bad leadership that has over the years hindered development.
Senator Odebiyi represented by Engr Ayo Olubori bemoaned how people at the helms of affairs have refused to lift up the people despite having the opportunity.
“It’s quite unfortunate that a good number of people at the corridor of power does not have any bearing in governance at all.
“Majority of people at the leadership positions in the country doesn’t have the needed quality that can produce good and meaningful governance in the country,” he said.
On the reason behind the formation of the movement, Senator Odebiyi noted the group is aimed at promoting leadership and good governance across the national politics.
He added that the group came at a time the country was preparing for the 2023 elections.
Ambassador Henry Bello, the convener and Director General of the group said the country has suffer a lot due to lack of good governance which must be corrected in the next year’s general election.
Bello said, “this is the more reason the movement is agitating for good governance and ethical leadership for a change of government in the country.
“The movement is giving their full surport for the emergency of Bola Tinubu/Shettima for the presidency because they believe he will provide quality governance.”
According to him, the antecedents of both of Messrs Bola Tinunu and Kashim Shettima when they were governors in Lagos and Borno states informed the movement’s opinion to give them their full support.
He revealed that with the efforts of the movement, the members would help the presidential candidate of ruling All progressives Congress victorious at the election.
Mr Bello said that the movement has designed some strategies and concepts which include visiting of large market by members in customise cloths to preach the gospel of Tinubu and Shettima.
“So; artisans like hairdressers, bricklayers, fashion designer and a host of the artisan will be used while various professional bodies in the South West will be engaged.”
In her words, the National Women leader of Asiwaju totality and Iyalode Ojudu Lagos Mrs Yetunde Babajide urged women in the group to go back to their various states to work hard for the emergency of Bola Tinubu.
She, however, advised them to formed cluster farmers group to benefit from the empowerment program of Asiwaju Tinubu for farmers in the country.
Highlights of the event was the inauguration of the coodinators of the group in the South West states as well as their local governments coordinators.
