The senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District of Ondo state, Ayo Akinyelure is set to dump the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over lingering crisis within the party.
The senator is said to have commenced consultation to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The PDP has been involved in crisis at the national level and has spilled over to the state as the crisis has defied solution at all levels.
The Wike/ Atiku crisis has also affected the performance of the PDP in the presidential and national assembly elections in the state.
Former ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose had on Wednesday announced his resignation from being a member of the PDP.
Fayose said, “From today, I stay off PDP. I say it here from today, I step aside because I must be talking like a leader in this country”.
Unlike in 2019, the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar lost Ondo state to the ruling APC while it also lost the three senatorial seats as well as seven out of eight house representatives seats, the worse results the party has got in recent time.
Roving Reporters gathered that Akinyelure who delivered his polling unit to all PDP candidates in the last Saturday election has made up his mind that his time is over in the party.
A source close to the senator told Roving Reporters that, Senator Akinyelure is still not happy with the way he was treated during and after the primary election for the Ondo Senatorial slot last year, which led to the emergence of Chief Ifedayo Adedipe as the party candidate.
Adedipe lost the election to the APC candidate, Adeniyi Adegbonmire
It was also gathered that the senator only delivered his polling unit and the local government because of his promises to Atiku Abubakar that he would not betray the presidential candidate, but will soon announce his leaving PDP.
In a reaction, Charles Akinwon, Special Adviser to the senator on Media and Strategy said there was nothing of such.
When asked if it was true that his boss is planning to defect, Akinwon simply replied, “Not true”.
